This teenage patient presented with a deep bite, where the upper front teeth overlapped the lower teeth excessively. The upper front teeth were also positioned backwards (tucked in), which can affect both the appearance of the smile and the way the teeth function together.
Orthodontists describe this as a Class II Division 2 bite, where the front teeth are retroclined and the bite is deeper than normal.
Treatment was carried out in two phases. A functional appliance was first used to guide jaw growth and improve the bite relationship. This was followed by treatment with fixed braces to align the teeth and refine the final result.
Over the course of treatment the bite was corrected and the teeth were aligned, resulting in a more balanced smile and improved function.
